Story
October 2025 we flew into Liberia and drove down to an Airbnb in Ostional. We did a night tour with a guide for the arribada - thousands of olive ridley turtles coming ashore to nest. There were so many that some of them were literally walking over our feet. Our Airbnb host even brought us fresh coconuts to drink out of one day.
The countryside roads were... adventurous. Very bumpy. Very "hope the rental car likes this."
From there we drove inland to La Fortuna. Tourist-town energy, a river behind our Airbnb that the kids treated like a private water park, and a day pass to Los Lagos - the same resort Rachel and I went to on our honeymoon. We hiked Mistico's hanging bridges - no standout wildlife sightings, but walking the canopy bridges was still a blast. Somehow found a Mexican restaurant, then drove to San José for the flight home.
And yes: we went to a mall. One of our favorite parts of traveling is watching people just go about normal life - malls, daycares, grocery runs.
